# How much does an offer in compromise cost?

Updated October 8, 20262 sourcesTaxTruce team[Fact checked](/editorial-standards)

The short answer

The application fee is $205, plus a first payment. With a lump sum offer, you send 20% of the offer when you apply. Low income filers may skip the fee and payments. If the IRS rejects the offer, it keeps the fee and applies payments to your debt.

Some firms charge their own fees. Get any fee in writing first.
